How to find the mode
Count each value
For 3, 7, 3, 9, 7, 3, 12: the 3 appears three times, 7 twice, 9 and 12 once each.
Pick the most frequent
3 appears most often, so the mode is 3.
Watch for ties and no mode
If two values tie, the set is bimodal and both are modes. If every value appears once, there is no mode.
Questions people ask
What is the mode in math?
The value that appears most often in a set of numbers. In 3, 7, 3, 9, 7, 3, 12 the mode is 3 because it appears three times, more than any other value.
Can there be more than one mode?
Yes. If two values tie for most frequent the set is bimodal; three or more is multimodal. The calculator lists every mode.
What if no number repeats?
Then the set has no mode. Every value appears once, so none is "most common".
What is the difference between mean, median and mode?
Mean is the sum divided by the count. Median is the middle value once sorted. Mode is the most frequent value. For 1, 2, 2, 9 they are 3.5, 2 and 2.
Does mode work for words as well as numbers?
Yes. Mode is the only average that works for categories, like the most common colour or name in a list. Type them in and the calculator counts them.
